The Childers-Childers Debate

A Virtual Cross-Time Debate Between Jeff Childers 1996 and Jeff Childers 1998 About the Identity of the New Testament Church

1998 Second Answer

(Resolved: The Church founded by Jesus Christ is the Holy Roman Catholic Church, not the Protestant denomination, the Church of Christ.)

Catholics worship God and God alone. We do worship the elements of Holy Communion, but we do not worship them when they are bread and wine. The Scriptures clearly teach in John 6 and in each of the accounts of the Last Supper that the bread and wine actually become the Body and Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. We worship the Blessed Sacrament because the Blessed Sacrament is God.

We do not worship Mary or the saints. We give them great honor and respect, higher than what we give to any living on earth. Still, it is not worship. Mary and the saints join with us in worshipping God and God alone.

As for the title Co-Redemptrix, it asserts rightly that Mary co-operated with Jesus in the redemption of the world by bringing the world a Redeemer. Without Mary, there could be no redemption, for there would be no Christ. Her role as Co-Redemptrix is entirely subordinate to and entirely grounded in her son's role as Redeemer.
