The Second Sorrowful Mystery

The Scourging at the Pillar

Jesus is stripped and unmercifully scourged until His body is one mass of bloody wounds.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed by Thy name, Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

"And straightway in the morning, the chief priests holding a consultation with the ancients and the scribes and the whole council, binding Jesus, led him away, and delivered him to Pilate. And Pilate asked him: Art thou the king of the Jews?" (Mark 15:1,2)

Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

"Jesus answered: My kingdom is not of this world. Pilate therefore said to him: Art thou a king then? Jesus answered: Thou sayest that I am a king." (John 18:36,37)
